Detachable Swan Neck

Detachable Towbars prove to be popular as the neck can be detached from the car leaving very little or, in most cases, none of the towbar visible.

More Information

David Murphy Towing in Northern Ireland stocks a comprehensive range of towbars from some of Europe’s leading manufacturers including Brink, Witter, Westfalia, Bosal, A1 and PCT.

So how do you decide which one is suitable for you and your vehicle?

One of the most popular types of towbar outside Northern Ireland is the Swan Neck Towbar. There are variations of fixed and detachable but you will most commonly see these used in European countries.

To some degree, the choice will be dependent on your vehicle, as not all makes and models can support both types of towbar and David Murphy Towing can advise you on this.

The Detachable Swan Neck Towbar is considered the most flexible option of the Swan Neck style.

Despite the fact that you don’t have the option to use other accessories while it is attached, such as bicycle carriers (cycle carriers are available to fit with this towbar but the carrier can’t be used simultaneously while towing), there are some benefits to the Detachable Swan Neck Towbar.

The ability to remove the neck on the Fixed Swan Neck Towbar is considered more aesthetically pleasing than the Fixed Swan Neck or Flange Towbars. Then, of course, there are less problems with reverse parking sensors picking up the towbar when it can be detached. However in terms of price, it is usually comparative to the fixed style.

You will want to get the best advice before purchasing a Detachable Swan Neck Towbar. Our expert fitters will help you check your vehicle for important issues such as parking sensors that may be affected.

David Murphy Towing has many years of experience expertly fitting towbars to vehicles so we know how to advise you on the best size, fit and model to match your vehicle’s towing capacity.

Situated in Carryduff (on the outskirts of Belfast) David Murphy Towing is a quality secured member of the National Trailer and Towing Association (NTTA).
